MABUK
A type design project inspired by the mysticism and chaos of Kuda Kepang.
Rooted in Southeast Asian ritual performance, this typeface draws from Kuda Kepang — a traditional Javanese dance where performers ride woven horses and enter trance-like states through spirit possession. The word "mabuk", meaning intoxicated, reflects the disorienting visuals and wild energy of the performance.
This project reimagines those elements through type — exploring movement, rhythm, and distortion as a visual response to cultural ceremony.
